Unistress was called to expand its previous work in building the Albany Medical Center’s primary parking facility when its growth necessitated additional parking space.
The hospital asked Unistress to match, in precast concrete, the color of the brick used on the hospital façade. Unistress met this challenge by using a unique combination of natural aggregates and an orange pigment in the concrete mix. Exposed concrete wall panels in the elevator lobby continued the exterior façade color to the interior of the tower. The result was a close and consistent color match that earned an award from the American Concrete Institute.
The poured concrete caisson foundation system was selected to avoid any problems with noise and vibration related to pile systems but significantly impacted the construction schedule.
Manufacturing of precast components to meet tight timelines was able to proceed as the deep foundation system was installed, delivering the project for on-time completion.
