Seven months from start to finish. That was the ambitious time frame required by the University of Connecticut to construct a five-level parking garage on its Storrs campus, making a precast concrete structural system the logical choice.
The design/build team, including Unistress, was selected primarily due to our unique orientation of the stair towers and how the structure complements the buildings on campus. The 45° angled towers focus on the campus pedestrian traffic flow and the exterior facade features rose colored concrete with matching inset red brick, consistent with campus buildings.
Our design/build team maximized efficiency and cost-effectiveness by clearly establishing each member’s role, responsibility and lines of communication. With a defined decision-making procedure, all aspects of design, fabrication and construction were expeditiously handled. The tight coordination of this team allowed for drawings, site work and precast fabrication to proceed concurrently.
